It's been a long week...

For those of you who're wondering where I've been for the past week (sorry, Thong!) - I've been a bit busy completing my tutorials and revising for the exams. I sat for my first ever Uni exam last Thursday, and I still have a few more papers next week. Wonderful really - a whole week of non-stop worrying and revising.

Introductory probability and Statistics were alright. I made three or four stupid mistakes that could have been prevented if I'd revised more. Unfortunately, I've been failing miserably at revising. I should change my lj name to procastinacid or something. I swore to myself that I'd start studying yesterday. I watched Rurouni Kenshin - Reflection (Director's Cut) instead. It was the saddest anime OVA I've ever watched. Beautifully sad. I cried when the credits started rolling. Such a crybaby, I know, but I couldn't help it.

He'll make us prove everything I tell you, and the difficult part is, memorising theorems is not enough, we have to memorise their 'names' (e.g. theorem 1.2, 1.13, 3.25) too.

Post-DH fun.

Time never waits. Today's already the first day of my fifth week in Uni. I haven't miss a single lecture (yet) and I'm glad to say that I almost always finish my tutorials in time... XD

But let's not talk about that.

--this has spoilers-- As of today, exactly a week has passed since I've bought DH. I've read the book three times. ( ... )Anyway, I never found JK brilliant from a literary and technical perspective. However, she is wonderful at developing emotional connections between the characters and the readers. She is a lot better at creating suspense, foreshadowing and weaving back-story into the plot than before. Also, the imaginary universe she has created still fascinates me to this day. In short, her success is due not to the telling, but to the tale. My original opinion still stands; the books have some flaws and inconsistencies, but I still love them. I've spend nearly half of my life loving and obsessing about the Harry Potter series and I doubt that I'll ever stop doing so. Getting the Goblet of Fire on my twelfth birthday is the best present anyone could ever give me. No matter how... distasteful I find the epilogue, I can't thank JK enough for writing such an amazing series and for letting me escape into Harry's world. And lastly, Harry. You have suffered so much and faced many evils, yet you are amazingly pure and wonderfully brave and strong, even when confronted with death. I truly admire the man that you've become. Thank you, Harry for being there every step of the way. EDIT: Read If my flist wrote DH for some laughs, and End of Line for a much better epilogue, in my opinion.

I just can't find words to express how much love I have for the last book. ( SPOILERS ) I want to say more but I can't right now cause ~~I'm not making any sense~~ I'm just overwhelmed with squee and love and sadness because the HP series has ended for good. My hands are trembling like mad, I can't even type properly.

Never have I been so glad that I preordered the book. HP and the Ugly Price War Wtf? It's all so... childish. OMG, I still don't have the book yet. Two hours more till the Popular bookstore closest to me opens. OMG. But people worldwide have already started reading. cries Arghhhhh... I want the book NOW!

I really hope that Strikethrough no.2 will not happen, and that fandom will remain as strong as ever here in LJ. I'm ESTATIC because: After seven years of waiting, my grubby paws will be carressing THE book in another fourteen and a half hours. I doubt that I'll be able to sleep tonight. I'm WORRIED because: LJ has just issued a "clarification" in illegal and harmful activity which can be found here. Another strikethrough? Even though fandom is here to stay, it might be driven away from LJ for life. I'm also phoenixacid in GJ if that's the case. Someone should really make a fandom blogging site. Made by fans for all fans. I'm SAD because: It'll finally end tomorow. No more waiting. No more speculations and spoilers. No more HP books. What if fandom changes? What if JK kills off my favourite character? What if the book sucks? I guess we'll all have to wait till tomorow to find out.

HP Hits The Internet Has The New HP Been Leaked? ... and I didn't even know? Till now? I thought the (spoilers) were all fake or just plain speculation by fans. I know where to download the pdf files, but dammit, I won't be spoiled! BUT OH MY GAWD. THREE FRIGGIN' DAYS! I'M ALREADY NOT SLEEPING. I'M SOOOO EXCITED.

Hunting for Nargles...	[Jul. 15th, 2007\|07:27 pm]
Spoiler alert for HP movie! If you ask me to rate OoTP on a scale of one to ten, I'll give the movie a six and a half for above average. That bad huh? Well, if I haven't read the book, I would have given the movie an eight or more. The thing is, there are just too many important parts of book five that they left out. Most of it is because the book is the longest book in the series with the least amount of action and which emphasise more on character developement than anything else, and the movie is shortest one they have made yet. That just doesn't make any sense to me. The third movie also left a few things out such as the secret keeper bit (that's why the entrance to Grimmauld's place changed - no secret keeper in movieverse) which I find important in the HP universe, but the cut wasn't as jarring as the ones in the new movie. GoB also 'deleted' a lot of the important parts of the book, but it was action-packed (which really was what saved that movie, at least for me). Like I said, the cuts made in the OoTP was very obvious and the changed parts are unnecessary. ( SPOILERS!!!!! ) Em.. yea, I think that's it. An advice from me if you're a HUGE HP book fan: Don't go into the cinema with high expectations. It'll just dissapoint you. Try to think of the book and the movie as a separate entity - something which I failed to do. Oh, but do watch it if you're looking for some ~~sweaty writhing~~ eyecandy. OMG HPDH IN 6 DAYS!!!!1!!!!!11!!! djldkhlljhllklkkgldll!!!

Back from Haluansiswa	[Jul. 13th, 2007\|03:49 pm]
It's been a week since I was back from ~~hell~~ UM. So how was haluansiswa or orientation week, you ask? It was partly fun and partly horrible. I stayed in the fifth college, undeniably one of the smallest colleges in UM (only 200 freshies). The painted exterior of the buildings is peeling off, and the four middle blocks are built in such a way that it surrounds the assembly square, thus preventing the inflow of cool, very much wanted wind. ( On the first day... ) BTW, I've been sick for a week. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was the ice water that caused a sorethroat which turned into a cough and a 101 degree fever and now I have the flu. I attended lectures when I could barely walk last Tuesday. Ahhh, enough whinging. I need to finish up my tutorial homework. Oh yeah, before I forget, WATCHED HP MOVIE LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS SUCKY AT PARTS AND MADE OF WIN AT OTHERS. WILL POST ~~SPOILERS~~ REVIEW WHEN FREEEEEEE!!!! YEAH BEING SICK WILL NOT STOP ME FROM MY LOVE. XXXXXP

Things went downhill after I’m offered a place in UM. That night, I had food poisoning – the worst food poisoning ever – and the next day, I found out that my grandaunt had passed away. That was the first time I had severe stomach cramps that just won’t go away no matter how many times I rolled around my mattress. After the fifth bathroom visit, my dad had to drag (?) me to the clinic. I narrowly missed projectile vomiting onto two men outside a coffee shop. Puking my guts out into a drain and then, next to the car like a drunkard wasn’t fun, but the look on their faces made me giggle quite hysterically. It was the pills I tell you. Luckily those damn pills made the cramps and the nausea go away after a few hours. My grandaunt; she suffered from ovarian cancer and when that was cured, she had lung cancer (last stage). She was nearly eighty. You might think that I’m a horrible person, but I’m glad that she died. She doesn’t have to suffer anymore now that she’s gone. I’m not very close to her, so the bad news didn’t upset me much, but going to her wake this morning made me feel sad for her. She was a spinster, she always kept to herself and she invited very few people into her life. No one went to her wake except the sons, daughters (half of which are beneficiaries of her will – that’s why they were there really) and grandchildren of her brother, my grandfather. Overall, a fairly miserable two-day. That is, till I came home and opened my mailbox – my acceptance letter from UM is finally here. It’s official – I’m a UM student, er, in two weeks time anyway.

Just OMG. University Malaya has accepted me! I now know which course I'll be taking - BSc Maths! This is so cool. I'm still not sure whether I'll be staying at their hostel. I don't really mind either way. However, I still can't read my offer letter. The bloody webpage just can't be accessed at the moment. So I don't know when the orientation day starts and how much are the tuition fees and what are the dress codes and... Oh, and ~~my mum~~ one of my closest friends is taking the same course! In the same University! Just weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Pooling around...	[Jun. 8th, 2007\|11:45 am]
I went out with a group of friends yesterday. We wandered around aimlessly for an hour and finally settled on lunch at Sushi King. Then - as all get-together with friends are like - we chatted, laughed, joked and had fun. After two hours or so, we went bolling, or at least we wanted to, but the shoe rental and etc could just burn holes in our wallets so we ended up playing snooker. Yes, snooker. I didn't even know how to use a cue. Somehow, we managed. An hour later, we still couldn't finish the first round - yes, we sucked that much. So we played pool. Pool was fun and ten times easier. In fact, we weren't half bad at pool. coughI won three times in six roundscough Playing pool was a heck load of fun, except for the acrid, smoky smell of the place that came with it. I must go 'pooling' again someday. Oh, and a friend of mine lend me her Blood+ cds. Yay! I'm going to watch them during the weekends. I can't wait!
